Bright open-plan living area with white floors, cream sofas, rattan pendant lights and dining area

A Clean Start Done Right

|

This project in Dudley involved a complete knockdown rebuild, replacing an ageing asbestos dwelling with a new family home designed for modern living.

The brief was straightforward. Create a bright, open-plan home with strong indoor-outdoor connection, while ensuring the build process was well planned and delivered on time.

Design Direction

The new home takes on a Hampton-inspired approach, combining high ceilings, clean detailing, and a light, open layout.

The kitchen and main living areas were designed to feel connected and functional, supported by a butler's pantry that adds practical storage and separation without interrupting the flow of the space.

A large west-facing deck extends the living area outdoors, creating a strong link between the internal spaces and the backyard.

Planning and Constraints

One of the key challenges on this project was building close to the eastern boundary, which required work to be carried out within the neighbouring property.

This added a layer of complexity that needed to be addressed before construction began. Early planning ensured that all approvals, detailing, and coordination with neighbours were resolved upfront, allowing the build to proceed without disruption.

It is a good example of how preparation before site start can remove pressure later in the project.

Construction and Delivery

With planning resolved early, construction moved efficiently.

Trades were coordinated in a structured sequence, and the site was managed in a way that kept progress consistent throughout the build. The focus was on maintaining momentum while ensuring quality at each stage.

A key milestone for the clients was moving into their new home before Christmas, which was achieved as planned.

What the New Home Delivers

The finished home is a complete transformation from what was originally on the site.

The new layout provides open, functional living spaces, supported by natural light and a clear connection to the outdoors. The design feels clean and resolved, with finishes that suit the overall character of the home.

Knockdown rebuilds offer the opportunity to start fresh, but the outcome still depends on how well the project is planned and delivered. By resolving boundary conditions early and maintaining a clear construction process, this project moved smoothly from demolition through to completion, delivering a home that meets both the brief and the timeline.
